Extended Grace Period for Payment of Taxes

Rockaway Borough has extended the grace period for the 2020 year second quarter property taxes to May 29, 2020. Read Resolution 68-20.

Amending Chapter 55, Officers and Employees, of the Code of the Borough of Rockaway
The ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Rockaway held on May 14, 2020, and that said ordinance was passed on first reading by title only. It will be further considered for final passage at a meeting of the governing body to be held on June 11, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. This ordinance creates the position of Community Liaison. The bond ordinance was introduced and passed upon first reading at a meeting of the governing body on May 14, 2020. It will be further considered for final passage, after public hearing thereon, at a meeting of the governing body to be held on June 11, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. During the week prior to and up to and including the date of such meeting, copies of the full bond ordinance will be available at no cost and during regular business hours at the Clerk’s office for the members of the general public who shall request the same. Purpose: To appropriate $123,600, $80,000 of which is from a Community Development Block Grant and $43,600 of which is from the Reserve for Sewer Capital of the Borough of Rockaway, in the County of Morris, New Jersey, for the Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project, including all work and materials necessary therefor and incidental thereto and further including all related costs and expenditures incidental thereto Read complete ordinance.

ORDINANCE DESCRIPTION: This ordinance authorizes the Borough of Rockaway, that, in the CY 2020 budget year, the final appropriations of the Borough of Rockaway shall be increased by 3.5%, amounting to $332,991.00, and that the CY 2020 municipal budget for the Borough of Rockaway be approved and adopted in accordance with this ordinance. Any amount authorized that is not appropriated as part of the final budget shall be retained as an exception to final appropriation in either of the next two succeeding years.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Reviews

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting its first Five-Year Review of the Rockaway Borough Wellfield Superfund Site located in Rockaway Borough, Morris County, New Jersey. This review seeks to confirm that the cleanup conducted at the site, which included:

  1. wellhead treatment of the borough supply wells;
  2. potentially responsible party groundwater extraction and treatment system;
  3. EPA-lead groundwater extraction and treatment system;
  4. potentially responsible party soil vapor extraction system; and
  5. EPA-lead soil vapor and extraction system to ensure the effectiveness of the remedy continues to be protective of public health and the environment and is functioning as designed.
