U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Reviews

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting its first Five-Year Review of the Rockaway Borough Wellfield Superfund Site located in Rockaway Borough, Morris County, New Jersey. This review seeks to confirm that the cleanup conducted at the site, which included:

  1. wellhead treatment of the borough supply wells;
  2. potentially responsible party groundwater extraction and treatment system;
  3. EPA-lead groundwater extraction and treatment system;
  4. potentially responsible party soil vapor extraction system; and
  5. EPA-lead soil vapor and extraction system to ensure the effectiveness of the remedy continues to be protective of public health and the environment and is functioning as designed.

  • If Medicare eligible, please bring Medicare card.
  • All persons must wear a mask covering mouth and nose/temperature check and screening assessment will be completed prior to receiving vaccine.

The bond ordinance, the summary terms of which are included herein, has been finally adopted by the Borough of Rockaway, in the County of Morris, State of New Jersey on August 13, 2020 and the 20 day period of limitation within which a suit, action or proceeding questioning the validity of such bond ordinance can be commenced, as provided in the Local Bond Law, has begun to run from the date of the first publication of this statement. Copies of the full bond ordinance are available at no cost and during regular business hours, at the Clerk’s office for members of the general public who request the same. The summary of the terms of such bond ordinance follows:

Rockaway Borough Ordinance 12-20 was introduced and passed upon first reading at a meeting of the governing body of the Borough of Rockaway, in the County of Morris, State of New Jersey, held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Rockaway Borough Community Center, 21-25 Union Street, Rockaway, New Jersey. It will be further considered for final passage, after public hearing thereon, at a meeting of the governing body to be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rockaway Borough Community Center. During the week prior to and up to and including the date of such meeting, copies of the full ordinance will be available at no cost and during regular business hours, at the Clerk’s office located in the Municipal Building, 1 East Main Street, Rockaway Borough, New Jersey, for the members of the general public who shall request same. This ordinance authorizes a PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) program for 74 West Main Street Urban Renewal Associates, LP for their construction of 64 senior rental units, 63 of which would be affordable housing units that are part of the Borough Affordable Housing Program. The PILOT is for property located at Block 73, Lot 65, a/k/a 74 West Main Street. 74 West Main Street Urban Renewal Associates, LP shall pay an annual service charge based on 6.28 percent of the annual gross revenue generated from the project.

ORDINANCE DESCRIPTION: This ordinance authorizes the Borough of Rockaway, that, in the CY 2020 budget year, the final appropriations of the Borough of Rockaway shall be increased by 3.5%, amounting to $332,991.00, and that the CY 2020 municipal budget for the Borough of Rockaway be approved and adopted in accordance with this ordinance. Any amount authorized that is not appropriated as part of the final budget shall be retained as an exception to final appropriation in either of the next two succeeding years.
