Bureau of Fire Prevention
The Bureau of Fire Prevention is headed by a Fire Marshal who supervises the inspections of buildings and businesses that, by State guidelines, are categorized as "Life Hazard Use." These inspections ensure that all businesses operating in Rockaway are fire-safe facilities. When there is an actual occurrence of a fire, it is the responsibility of the Fire Marshal to conduct an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
Annually, the Bureau presents programs promoting fire prevention to local schools.
Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Inspections
When residential homes are sold, the Bureau of Fire Prevention conducts routine inspections to insure that smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are present. Call 973-625-FIRE to schedule smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector inspections, or to report any fire violations.
